Buon 25 aprile. Oggi per le Festa della Liberazione d’Italia ripenso alla storia italiana dal 1945 ed anche oltre, tipo gli Etruschi e i Sanniti di cui parlerò prossimamente. Certo che abbiamo ancora tanta strada da fare per avere un futuro più stabile.
Happy 25th April. Today for the Italian Liberation Day I think back to Italian history from 1945 and even beyond, like the Etruscans and the Samnites that I will talk about shortly. Of course we still have a long way to go to have a more stable future.
Quando pensi all’Italia, pensi probabilmente a Roma, il cuore antico del mondo Classico ed il centro di uno degli imperi più stimati della storia. Con 7,3 milioni di turisti internazionali nel 2017, la città rimane una destinazione superlativa e una pietra miliare della cultura. Però, prima del Colosseo e del Foro, prima del Pantheon e del Arco di Constantino, quando Roma era solo un piccolo gruppo di cittadine pastorali i cui nomi si perdono nella storia, l’Italia ha appartenuto agli Etruschi.
When you think of Italy, you probably think of Rome, the ancient heart of the Classical world and the center of one of history’s most esteemed empires. With 7.3 million international visitors in 2017, the city remains a top tourist destination and cultural landmark. But before the Colosseum and the Forum, before the Pantheon and the Arch of Constantine, when Rome was just a small collection of pastoral settlements whose names have been long lost to history, Italy belonged to the Etruscans.
Sapevi che Roma è stata due volte capitale d’Italia? La cosa potrebbe non sorprendere poiché nel corso della storia italiana è stata al centro di molteplici vicende che hanno interessato la penisola italiana. Primo fra tutti l’Impero Romano quando la città era veramente l’ombelico del mondo. Successivamente all’interno della Città Stato, che per molti secoli ha posto Roma nel cuore della cristianità. Tuttavia, la città eterna è tra altre quattro città italiane a detenere il titolo di capitale d’Italia.
Did you know that Rome has been the capital of Italy twice? This might not come as a surprise since it has been at the centre of multiple events throughout history that have concerned the Italian peninsula. First and foremost the Roman Empire, when the city was truly the belly of the world. And afterwards within the Church State (Città Stato), which for many centuries established Rome as the heart of Christianity. However, the Eternal city is among four other Italian cities to hold the title of capital of Italy.
Il 2021 è stato un anno difficile non solo a causa della pandemia. L’Italia ha registrato un aumento di migranti sulle coste, oltre 60 mila, e tra quelli che ce l’hanno fatta, c’erano tante mamme e bambini. I femminicidi sono anche aumentati. I miei pensieri vanno a tutte le persone che hanno sofferto e mi auguro che il 2022 porti un po’ di luce.
Allora solleviamoci con alcuni avvenimenti importanti e belli allo stesso tempo.
2021 was a difficult year not only because of the pandemic. Italy has registered an increase in migrants on the coasts, over 60 thousand, and among those who made it, there were many mothers and children. Femicides have also increased. My thoughts go out to all the people who have suffered and I hope that 2022 will bring some light.
So let’s rise up with some events that are important and beautiful at the same time.
Uso la parola inglese “optional” non a caso visto che sempre più parole straniere entrano ogni giorno nel gergo italiano. Così mentre tanti stranieri si prodigano ad impare la nostra bella lingua, i politici italiani la deturpano senza vergogna.
I use the English word “optional” not by chance as more and more foreign words enter Italian jargon every day. So while many foreigners do their utmost to learn our beautiful language, Italian politicians disfigure it without shame.
